Coverage by YouTubers and streamers is crucial to the success of indie games today. But how do you make sure your game looks as attractive as possible on YouTube?
One simple but often overlooked step is fixing YouTube’s auto-generated box art, which in many cases, doesn’t get generated correctly at all.
If someone clicks on your game from a YouTuber’s or streamer’s channel without proper box art, this is what they’ll see. Not very inspiring, right?
Luckily, fixing this is easy. Just follow the steps below.
- Create a Box Art – Poster Art image
- Resolution: 1000×1400
- Format: .PNG
- Example:
- Create a screenshot
- Resolution: 2560×1440
- Format: .PNG
- This image will be used as the background/banner on your YouTube game listing.
- Send an email
- To: youtubegamingdestination@google.com
- Subject: Add cover art to <Insert your games name here>
- Body: Hi!
I’d like to add the following cover art to <Insert your games name here> (<Insert link to your auto generated YouTube art, example: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCwmgf_IlYvTnnbyAz498og>) since the auto generated art seems to have failed. This game is developed and published by my studio, <Insert studio name here>.
It was suggested that I add the following legal text also:
“YouTube channel: <Insert your YouTubeChannel url example: https://www.youtube.com/@PrettyFlyGames> – I acknowledge that the materials I am providing via email constitute Provider Content or Content per the terms of my entity’s agreement(s) with YouTube and/or Google as applicable.”
